Really liked the main character, Kira, as a believable regular person. Even though she does have a mysterious ability. And, like all fantasy stories, the protagonist has mysterious lineage she is longing to discover.

Sharon Skinner weaves a fascinating tale of a young woman, a healer, on a quest for freedom and safety as she flees a hostile world. The comforting presence of her animal protectors, and her special communication with them, adds a surprising dimension and a lovely depth to this engaging page-turner.. . . “

Kira, our heroine, is a refreshing blend of vulnerability and courage. Her journey is as much a “coming of age” tale as it is one of discovering and owning one’s inner strength. So often Fantasy genre protagonists have little in the way of a dynamic character, but Kira is one of those that stands out to move from frightened to fighter. Exciting adventure, intriguing magic, and gentle romance round out the first book in Kira’s epic story. Enjoyed by both Young Adults and Adults alike.

“. . . The characters are really good: deep and complex, well-realized and genuine despite being characters in a fantasy novel. There are all the elements of a good story here, and that story dominates, complemented by the fantasy world and the political intrigues and the rest of it. The fantasy world is also good, with an interesting depiction of feudalism and a good use of Kira’s healer training, one which made both the character and the world more relatable and realistic.

It’s a good book. I will be reading the sequel. And also checking out more stuff from Brick Cave Media.“

“I bought this book in a Barnes and Nobel when Sharon was doing a book signing. I bought it for a thirteen year old family friend, but decided to read it first. I read until 2am on a work night and had to make myself stop! It is FUN!! I can’t wait to see what my young friend thinks. I am going to get the next in the series.

“A great book with a very complicated character! This was the first Sharon Skinner book I ever read, and shortly after that I had the opportunity to meet her and discuss this book at length. I really enjoyed reading this book with a very strong female leading character, who is as complex as she is brave, and a plot that only deepens as the book goes on. One fantastic read!”

. . . Skinner brings some good life lessons to her target readers. Don’t rush into romance too quickly. Be kind and decent to all you meet. After all, people will judge you by your actions, for good or ill. And rely upon your own self, not others.
Mesa Arizona dwelling Skinner has a small library of work and hopeful plenty of more imaginative tales yet to tell. She sometimes writes with a collaborator, including a series with her husband Bob Nelson. Readers can get her many works on Amazon.com. . .”

Another amazing book from Sharon Skinner! This book is the 2nd in the trilogy of Kira’s saga and it is just as good as the first, “The Healer’s Legacy”, which is saying a lot! In searching for Kira’s people on her mother’s side, Kira, Milos, Vaith and Kelmir travel to the Isle of Eilar, which is a land very different from what they’ve seen before, inhabited by people with unique abilities. It is such a great story and its going to be so very difficult waiting for the 3rd book to come out . . .”

What a great novel! Sharon does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life and drawing you into the book with characters that are believable and that you actually care about. The writing is beautiful in is simplicity but vividly describes the world around you so you can actually picture and feel what is happening rather than just being told a story. Great resolution and ending with just enough foreshadowing for the next book. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
