Another amazing book from Sharon Skinner! This book is the 2nd in the trilogy of Kira’s saga and it is just as good as the first, “The Healer’s Legacy”, which is saying a lot! In searching for Kira’s people on her mother’s side, Kira, Milos, Vaith and Kelmir travel to the Isle of Eilar, which is a land very different from what they’ve seen before, inhabited by people with unique abilities. It is such a great story and its going to be so very difficult waiting for the 3rd book to come out . . .”

What a great novel! Sharon does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life and drawing you into the book with characters that are believable and that you actually care about. The writing is beautiful in is simplicity but vividly describes the world around you so you can actually picture and feel what is happening rather than just being told a story. Great resolution and ending with just enough foreshadowing for the next book. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

The second book of the series was just as fantastically well written as the first. Mrs. Skinner has a special gift for writing characters that are so easy to get attached to, while at the same time giving us at least one that we love to hate. This book begins where the last book left off, and leaves you wanting more! I excitedly wait for the third and final installment of Kira’s story. If you haven’t yet read The Healer’s Legacy I highly suggest you start there.

Don’t you just love it when a new author hits all your reader happy buttons? I’d never heard of Sharon Skinner until I met her at this year’s L.A. Times Festival of Books. I fell in love with the cover, read a page as Ms. Skinner gave me a brief synopsis and BOOM, I was sold. And she signed my copy, which was so cool. Authors are like rock stars, especially ones I love.

The Healer’s Legacy is that kind of epic, heroic fantasy that keeps me reading instead of sleeping . . .”

This portrayal of a woman who doubts herself repeatedly but draws upon her inner strength and resourcefulness to survive presents an excellent metaphor for all women to embrace. Nice balance between the intelligence, kindness, and gentle characteristics of a healer with the pragmatic, courageous characteristics of a warrior. Would really enjoy a sequel.

THE HEALER’S LEGACY is a captivating fantasy novel. Kira, the main character, is very likable because she is believable. I saw her as a very principled, and very troubled, individual. How could she not be, with the Warlord Toril essentially chasing her to the very ends of the continent. Her companions are a wyvern and a moon cat, whom she is able to communicate with telepathically. When the story opens, she manages to escape from Toril’s guards. She then crosses the continent, helping to heal a gnome child along the way (a very important event later), fights for her life with a rock troll in a vicious storm and ends up at Tem Hold.

What happens then? Read the book and find out! I will say that the ending was most satisfactory and definitely left the door open to a sequel.

That said, I thank Sharon Skinner for writing a novel I could lose myself in for awhile. I look forward to the stories that follow.“

This is my first fantasy read…and now I am hooked. I could feel every pain Kira felt..whether emotional or physical. Her companions seemed to be right by my side as well. The detail Sharon put in the story made everything come alive. The experiences she went through gave her strength to follow her goal. She had tough decisions to make…and choices that could go either way. I found myself thinking what would I do… She is a character that I want to meet again…I want to see what happens when she meets her mother’s people. It would be a great movie!
